Bio

I entered the Army into active service on September 10, 1958 at Indianapolis and went to basic at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.  Then on to artillery training at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas.  In January 1959 I volunteered for airborne training in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  I received a Certificate of Completion from the 82nd Airborne Division on the 12th day of March 1959.  That was one of the greatest things that  I had experienced.  The first jump was the real experience.

I left  Fort Bragg in July 1960 to go to Camp Casey, Korea.  I received the 7th United States Infantry Division Certificate of Achievement on August 2nd, 1961. The Citation read as follows:

"During the period 1 September l960 to 3 August 196l, Sp5 Bernard L. Holloway performed the duties of both Chief Wireman and Senior Radio Mechanic in a most outstanding manner.  By his tireless efforts, aggressiveness and endurance, the Communications Section, to which he was assigned, has been consistently superior in all phases of operations and administrations.  Sp5 Holloway not only met and solved many problems with a sincere application of devotion and loyalty, but displayed tact, diplomacy and leadership which won the respect and admiration of his superiors and subordinates.  Such outstanding performance of duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service."

The above quote came from Lt Col. Maynard W. Files, commander.

I was a member of the7th Infantry Division basketball team and we played about 20 games and our team was undefeated.  I was the only enlisted personnel on the squad.

I was discharged August 22, 1961 at Oakland, California.

In September 2000, I volunteered with the DAV to transport veterans from Fulton County to the VA hospitals in Marion, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis.  I drove until September 2004, then my wife and I moved to South Carolina for over 2 years.  Then in October 2006 we moved back and I again volunteered for the DAV until April of 2008.  I also received a safe driving award for l50,000 miles driven.

Then on 14th of April 2008, I was appointed by the Fulton County Comissioners to become the County Veteran Service Officer for Fulton County.
