Service Officer Bio:
    Gary was born and raised in Goshen, IN and graduated from Goshen High School in 1964.
    He enlisted in the United States Navy on Dec. 6, 1965 and went on active duty March 2, 1966.  During his Navy career, he served in several different commands.  After attending Communication's Technician school, he was assigned to the USS ALLEN M. SUMNER (DD-692).  The Sumner spent 7 months in Vietnam from February 7, 1967 to September 9, 1967.  After the Sumner, Gary decided to make the Navy a career.  His next command was Navy Recruiting District, Chicago, Il.; commissioned the first Navy F-14 Squadron (VF-1); Underwater Demolition Team TWELVE; Training Coordinator for all the Navy diving schools (BUD/S;EOD;DIVERS); USS PATTERSON (FF-1061); retired from recruiting duty at Navy Recruiting District, Indianapolis, In. 
    He retired from the Navy as a Personnelman Chief Petty Officer on July 31, 1986. 
    He was hired on as the assistant County Veterans Service Officer on August 4, 1986 and assumed the current position on January 1st, 1988.  
    He served two terms as President of the Indiana County Veterans' Service Officers' Association.  He has served as the Secretary/ Treasurer for five years.  He was the first recipient of the Indiana "Outstanding Service Officer" award in 1989-1990 and recently honored with an award from the State of Indiana Disabled American Veterans "Distinguished Service Award" for 1999-2000.
