Service Officer Bio:
Freeman Harold Furr served in the U.S. Navy from December 23, 1944 to July 9, 1946, achieving the rank of Motor Machinests's Mate 3rd Class. During this hitch he served as a lookout for 1 year, 2 months and as an engineman on LSM(R) 402.
He served again from July 9, 1946 to July 9, 1954, achieving the rank of Engineman 1st Class.
Freeman Furr has written two books on Benton County war veterans which cover from the Revolutionary War to the Gulf War.
He has written four books on Benton County history, from 1784 to 1949, called "The Stars in the Prairie".
Benton County has over 3,000 veterans. Mr. Furr has almost all their military discharges on file in his office.
He has been employed as the Benton County Veterans' Service Officer since January 1, 1996.
